my bf tried this, and it was a little spicy and herbal at the beginning. i definitely could smell the earl gray. he said it smelled metallic to him and reminded him of home depot but in a good way. as it dried down, it became softer and a little sweeter. it sort of reminded me of playdough, but i still enjoyed it. he preferred the initial smell and didn’t really like the sweetness of the dry down. on me, the dry down has an almost minty, herbal cocoa butter smell. i wouldn’t say this is a super masculine scent, but the opening especially is reminiscent of men’s cologne. i like it but don’t love it.
After trying “After the Night’s Shade” for the first time I knew I was going to full-size it immediately. To me, this is confidence in a bottle. It smells like a fancy and expensive men’s cologne; like when I put it on I should be walking around wearing a two piece suit. The lavender isn’t medicinal or soapy like I sometimes expect, and the patchouli and vetiver aren’t overwhelming either. It’s a very beautiful and well blended scent!
A smooth and warm mix of amber and lavender with dry greens in the background to support it. After first spraying it I get a note of something dry and grassy, which I think is the vetiver? As it dries down the lavender, amber, and earl grey become the most prominent with the vetiver and mosses moving to the background.
Buttery tonka, deep rosewood and patchouli, smooth amber, and quietly supportive bergamot and lavender. At the risk of the baggage that comes with the word I believe it smells like a masterfully blended extremely high end cologne, the kind that's vanillic and only slightly masculine with none of that typical caustic cologne feel and costs 10x everything else. It ended up immediately in my husband's collection and is in fact my most favorite one he has.
At 1st whiff I get a clear reading on lavender & earl grey. The lavender is the star of the scent. It's gentle, not sharp or soapy. I can sorta pick out the osmanthus & rosewood. If you are put off by the vetiver, oakmoss, & patchouli don't be. They're not dominant or dank, more like a dry background scent. The scent conjures up what I imagine Victorian men would wear.
